Finding The Heart Of The Story w/ John Azoni

Check out the video podcast (vodcast?) of this episode below.

If you’ve been listening to us for a little while, you’ve probably heard that here at Tell, we’re a little bit obsessed with crafting and sharing great, authentic stories for everyone we work with. If you’re new around here: We’re obsessed with crafting and sharing great, authentic stories for everyone we work with.

Well today I’d like to introduce you to the man behind many of those stories, our Creative Director and “Story Guru” here at Tell, John Azoni. Originally a fine art painter, John made his way to video as a way to market his art, and before long, had fallen in love with the medium as a way to tell a story.

A video can be a big investment of time, money, and creative energy, but the payoffs can be huge. John joins us today to talk about what goes into crafting a story from the heart from a brand perspective, as well as some of the pitfalls people and organizations often make when going through the video making process.

Have you ever thought about a video for your brand? What’s the story? Have you ever thought about consulting with storytelling experts? Let us know in the comments!

In this episode:

– John’s approach to leading people to the brand “through the back door”
– Some of the common mistakes brands make when approaching a video
– Why the person or people who best tell the brand’s story aren’t always the most obvious
– The method we use to create videos and stories that are different than the way they’ve always been done, either by your company, or your competitors

“What can we do that’s remarkable? There’s just a lot to be said for challenging clients to think about a remarkable idea or a remarkable approach, and that’s often the approach that’s not obvious, or that’s not safe.” [13:22]

“We employ this term called, finding the heart of the story. The heart isn’t always the product or the service. People connect with other people, and their experience in connecting with other human beings leads them to discover the brand.” [16:55]

– Remember when this potato photograph sold for a million Euros? Just try and tell me that John’s painting isn’t better than that! Check out the video version of this episode here for a look at it and send us your bids.
